BAM Is Driven!

BAM IS DRIVEN. The BAM team strives for excellence, but Big About Music also believes that music making is a right to which no one young or old should be denied access. BAM’s vision is that of 100% of young people making music. The BAM team is passionate about spreading the message of music making for all.

BAM CHALLENGES. Members of the BAM team challenge themselves to explore new ways of working, to develop their own skills, and to be the best at what they do. BAM challenges itself as an organisation and others with the question “why?”.

BAM PARTNERS. The vast majority of BAM’s projects are partnership projects. Part of BAM’s mission is to advocate for the use of music as an essential vehicle for youth and community work. Big About Music works with a wide range of non music based organisations in order to deliver musical and non musical objectives. BAM wants music making to be at the top of everyone’s list; teachers, youth workers, health care workers, childcare professionals, the police, probation officers and more. Music can be an essential part of their toolkit.

BAM GROWS. Big About Music does all it can not to ”parachute” projects into communities and then vanish. BAM looks for ways to develop a sustained presence, and to leave something in place. BAM looks for ways it can support growth; growth for participants, growth for partners, growth for communities…. and growth for itself. The Big About Music team know that they are on a journey. BAM works to equip its delivery team with the skills and knowledge to be the best of Music Leaders.

BAM’s full time team of Music Leaders are qualified youth workers (NVQ level 3). They were trained as Northamptonshire’s first Arts Award assessors, and BAM is the county’s first registered Arts Award centre. BAM seeks to raise the bar when it comes to music leadership, and is committed to supporting the development of Music Leader standards.

BAM IS GENRE BLIND. Big About Music uses whichever musical genre is appropriate to a group’s needs. Sometimes this is easy to identify; a group will ask for a singing or music technology project. In other cases though the process involves seeing what inspires them, and which activity provides the best vehicle for achieving partners’ objectives.
